What to do when someone dies
First things first
If your loved one passed away at a nursing home or in a hospital, we can arrange the transport to our funeral home.
Or if the death occurred at home, contact your doctor first, and then call us.
If your loved one has already been transported to a public mortuary, you will still need to organise the funeral, and can make your own choice of funeral director. You’re under no obligation to use the undertakers contracted for the original transfer.
The funeral arrangements
It can be a difficult time when a loved one dies: we are here to guide you through the whole funeral process and make all the funeral arrangements.
One of the first things to do is to establish who has the authority to make decisions on the funeral arrangements:
• If there’s a Will, it would usually be the Executor;
• If there isn’t a Will, the next of kin usually has legal authority. This is often the surviving spouse or partner, or else the children.
Once that’s established, Vospers can assist you with planning a funeral, to give your loved one a fitting farewell.

Notifying the death
When a loved one dies, you will need to notify banks, utilities, and various Government departments of the death. This is easy to do with the myTrove service.
